Welcome to Renewable Hawaii
|
Renewable Hawaii, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. (HECO), issued the second release of its Renewable Energy Request for Project Proposals (RE RFPP 2) on March 28, 2005 to seek opportunities for limited passive investment in qualified (>1 megawatt), commercially viable, technically feasible renewable energy projects located on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, or the Big Island of Hawaii. The RE RFPP 2 is closed as of June 30, 2005. Renewable Hawaii is currently evaluating project proposals submitted in response to the RE RFPP 2.
Renewable energy project proposals may be submitted to Renewable Hawaii at any time. However, preference is given to proposals submitted under previous RE RFPP solicitations and evaluation of new proposals is contingent on Renewable Hawaii's ongoing initiatives and activities.
Please check this website regularly for updated information about the RE RFPP documents and process.
We appreciate your interest in Renewable Hawaii.
Background
Renewable Hawaii was formed in December 2002 as a non-regulated subsidiary of HECO. Its mission is to invest in commercially and economically viable projects that support reduction of Hawaii's dependence on imported fossil fuels and the timely attainment of the State of Hawaii Renewable Portfolio Standards law. Specifically, projects are encouraged that produce electricity from renewable resources, such as sun, wind, biomass, municipal solid waste, resource recycling, landfill gas, or geothermal energy sources.
Renewable Hawaii's unique approach is indicative of HECO's ongoing commitment to increase Hawaii's use of renewable energy resources as part of a multi-tracked plan for meeting the State's future energy needs.
To ensure those future needs are met responsibly and reliably, Hawaii is actively pursuing and integrating a full range of energy choices, including not only traditional power generation facilities, but also energy efficiency and conservation programs, customer-sited and utility-sited distributed generation and combined heat and power systems, and increased use of energy from renewable resources.
Previous Solicitations
In 2003 and 2004, Renewable Hawaii released the first RE RFPP, in series, for (1) Oahu; (2) Maui, Molokai, and Lanai; and (3) the Big Island of Hawaii, in that order. In response to these solicitations, Renewable Hawaii received numerous proposals and is in active discussion with six developers of renewable projects, including wind, solid waste, and landfill gas resources.
On March 28, 2005, Renewable Hawaii, Inc. issued the second release of its Renewable Energy Request for Project Proposals (RE RFPP 2) to seek opportunities for limited passive investment in qualified (>1 megawatt), commercially viable, technically feasible renewable energy projects located on the islands of Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai, or the Big Island of Hawaii. The RE RFPP 2, which closed on June 30, 2005, is provided below for reference purposes only.
Renewable Hawaii also is working with landowners and developers to develop other renewable energy projects.
